You know, you can measure a man up pretty quickly if you know the point where he’ll quit…

where when it gets hard, he quits & turns back.

But what about the man who just keeps showing back up? Who keeps driving? Who keeps pulling himself back up?

đŸ”„How do you measure the “unmeasurable?”

You know, if you think about it, when someone says, “I didn’t know you had it in you!” That’s because when you walked into the hard…when you walked into the heaviness…

they tried to measure you up…

They pulled out the tape and they thought to themselves, “THIS is the point where he’s going to quit…give up & turn back.”

And when you kept going…

…and made something out of nothing

đŸ”„that’s the point where you became unmeasurable

Be unmeasurable every day…

Where you’re willing to keep coming back,

go another round,

& lay another brick.

Where you’re willing to hang in there another minute, another hour, another damn day.

To push beyond yesterday’s “far.”

To stretch beyond yesterday’s “hard.”

To make yesterday’s “finish line” today’s starting line.

Unbothered of the obstacles…

Unmindful of how close or how far away you are from the goal…

Just unmeasurable…

“I love you…but”

“I want hire you…but”

“I want to buy from you…but”

đŸ”„The buts negate everything.

& you only hear what comes after but.

Your skin color, neighborhood, family, your past, present circumstances, nor the fact that you didn’t graduate high school nor go to college…

They’re not holding you back…

It’s your “buts.”

“I want to lose 20 lbs but I’m a single parent raising 2 kids, working 2 jobs, & have too much to do…”

“I want to sell 30 this month, but I haven’t been here long & am new to the area..”

“I want to make $100k this year, but only make $50k. There’s no way for me to double my income.”

You’re right…because your “buts” affirm your excuses.

đŸ”„Keep your buts…

Buts can negate…but they can also give you permission.

đŸ”„When you use the word “but” today as an excuse of why something can’t be done…

Use “but” to give you permission instead.

Use whatever time & resources you have RIGHT NOW to move forward.

đŸ”„I want to lose 20LBS, but I have 10 minutes, & a floor where I can do pushups, planks, & burpees.

đŸ”„I want to sell 30 this month, but I’ve got to get in front of 65-70 people.

đŸ”„I want to earn $100k this year, but I’ve got to strengthen my knowledge, techniques, & give all my creatives away for now.

Don’t give me that but…give me that but.

Whatever is considered “Best in the World” today is going to be obsolete tomorrow.

Technology is changing…

& if technology is changing so are tendencies…

& if tendencies are changing, so must your techniques.

Oh I get the fact that you’re all that and a bag of hot Funyuns…

You’ve exceeded your wildest expectations…

Making more money than you would’ve ever dreamed of…

You’re good….as of today.

đŸ”„â€Laurel” may be a good name for your dog or daughter…

đŸ”„but it’s not a good strategy for your life.

When Kareem Abdul Jabbar broke the NBA all time scoring record, Wilt Chamberlain said, “Had I known anyone would come close to breaking the record I would’ve put it out of sight…”

Laurels…

Wilt was good…as of that “today.”

The sad thing is he knew there was more…

Even sadder is, he could’ve put it out of sight…

but didn’t.

Setting the record made him the “Best in the World….”

đŸ”„Had he kept going…he could’ve been the best ever.

Oh you’re good…as of today.

DOG PEEING

The other day one of my salesmen pulled me aside and said, “I’m sorry for snapping at you yesterday.  I was frustrated because it seemed as though everyone was selling something, except for me.”

“It’s a good thing that you’re frustrated….

… because it shows that you still care…

… & that you’re still in the game, ” I said.

You’re going to have those days where it seems like everyone’s successful, but you.

Those are the days that you weigh your self-worth…

& on those shitty days it weighs ounces.

You try to ease the pain by calling yourself a piece of shit and mentally ramble on & on as if you gambled your grandmother’s inheritance with one roll of the dice at a Vegas casino.

(Self 3rd party): “You blew it!”

(Me Self): “Maybe I’ve lost my touch….”

(Self 3rd party): “You used to be a salesman…but look at you now! If you sold it for free, you probably couldn’t convince a customer to buy.”

No magic dust, lucky pen or underwear can help you out…

Some days, it’s just your day in the barrel.

When you have those days, you have the suck out the penalty of failure.

You’re failing…but you are not a failure.

Failing is the current score…

Failure is the final one.

You just happen to be on an 0-11 streak right now.

So here’s your fix…

#1: Being pissed off is good because it shows that you still care.

The time to be worried is not when you’re pissed off, it’s when you’re not pissed off and just “Oh well” the day.

And if you still care…then you can do something about it.

#2: Shut the hell up and get back in the game. No rehashing what just happened…no over analyzing…just shut up, knuckle up, and check back in.

You’ll win again…the fact that you’re still bothered is proof of that.

Sometimes the only thing that needs to be changed is your perspective.

Evan Carmichael is somebody I watch on YouTube and I like him because his videos are short bursts that make you think.

He said when he goes on tour, people often ask him when he’s coming to their city?

He answers, “I’m not…I’m not coming to your city….”

See, that’s what we want in life…

We want the unicorns…

We want the rainbows…

We want the pot of gold…

We want good fortune to come to us & life says, “I’m not coming…If you want to see a difference in your life bad enough, then you’ve got to go to me because I’m not coming to you.”

In Life you can either settle or see.

If you settle, then you get the scraps- so don’t bitch about it.

But if you really want to see it…

& you’re willing to run, sprint, climb, crawl, limp- put your teeth back in, get back up and keep showing up….

It ain’t easy.

Sometimes it’s not even fair.

But if you’re willing to go to it, you’ll one day see it.

Have an amazing day.

We’ve all said those words…

It’s funny that those are the exact same words that massively successful people say too..

They didn’t initially know what they were doing,

…but they knew where they were going.

They were determined to make it work…they were sure to be a success…they were adamant about changing the game.

So they headed in that mental direction & picked up lessons, skills, connections, and ultra success along the way.

I don’t know what to do…

I don’t know what to do, is not the same as I don’t know what I’m doing.

What to do…means to quit before you even get started. You’re waiting on Perfect….perfect time & conditions- then you’ll do.

But …what I’m doing…is just taking action. It’s being bold enough to kick along, push forward, & figure it out as you go.

Because nobody fully knows what to do...but few are bold enough to push off & say,I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’ll fucking figure it out.”

Don’t get paralyzed in what to do.

You’ll forever be standing there in a heap of regrets.

If you know where you want to go, head in that direction & start doing. Next will be there waiting for you.

Oh you don’t lack for If’s…

…if you had $ for the number of if’s you told yourself, you’d have problems, but money wouldn’t be one of them.

If I was a different race.

If I was taller.

If I was a starter.

If I was a baller.

If I was running a store.

If I was the CEO.

If I could get the loan.

If I could start my business.

If I wouldn’t have married him or had children with her.

Oh we If ourselves to death…

When what you need to do is how yourself to life.

if is all bullshit anyway.

Because you can’t, if you’re self taller.

You can’t if yourself a different skin color.

You can’t if yourself to have wealthy parents, nor be first cousins to Warren Buffett, or be Kim Kardashian’s sister.

When if kicks in, slap it down with a how

How can I use what I have right now?

Because how is all you’ve got.

You have unique advantages, but you’re so fixated on other people’s advantages that you’re blinded with if’s.

You say, “If I could have what they have, I’d be better off.”

It’s all bullshit.

Just ask yourself how…

How can I use what I’ve got, leverage it, & then grow it.

Start with what you have.

Use it.

And then begin to leverage it.

And if you don’t know how to leverage it…if you don’t know how to position your current advantages…

Then see Step 1…

Just use what you’ve got…

& along the way, you’ll figure out how to position it…then grow it.

Compound it by developing the skills, techniques, and education that you need to grow and evolve.

Educate yourself…be a sponge…ask questions…volunteer for the grunt work…

It doesn’t have to come from a classroom.

People do that…

They stall so they don’t have to take action (& probably fail)…

They rack up the loans thinking they have to sit idly in a classroom & have someone pour information into them.

You don’t need money…you need commitment.

Stop if’ing around & start how’ing.

How can I use what I have, leverage it, and then start growing that shit.

~become your own action figure. Stop waiting for perfect or thinking it’s too late. You got to-day so get started.

I ran into a guy I knew the other day who was signing up for a gym membership he’d let lapse. He told me he’d slacked off from working out once he’d gotten into a relationship, but now needed something new because the 3 yr romance ended.

A familiar habit for us all…

We wait for Life to disrupt us- then we wake up.

We suffer a health scare then we choose a healthier lifestyle…

We have a terrible month then we decide to get serious about our profession…

We get fired then we finally leap to do what we’ve always wanted to do…

It’s as if we wait on Life to give us a failing grade then we switch majors to see, try, & do something we’ve deep down always yearned for.

We wait because disrupting ourselves is scary…

…what if we fail?

…what if it doesn’t work?

…what if we end up looking stupid…

…what if we hear the dreaded words, I told you so…

…what if we take the leap, but don’t find our wings?

…what if…

…what if…

…what if…

So we wait for Life to disrupt us so we have an excuse (to others and ourselves) that we had no choice but to jump…

Keep the minors minor & they’ll never become major…

Why wait on major disruptions to do something?

Why not create your own?

…minor ones…

They don’t have to be, I quit!, moments…

Just create some mini disruptions that keep you awake & cause you to take notice that you do have options…

You always have options, but, through routine, your perspective gets narrowed into thinking that you have no other choice but to stay stuck in where you are today.

Drive a different way to work & back home…maybe you’ll see a piece of land that interests you or a new place to eat out…

Grab a real book, leave your phone in the car, sit by the lake or in front of your favorite coffee house, & read a few chapters.

Get off the treadmill & go run bleachers at the local high school. (& don’t tell me you can’t find a way in between the “locked” gates).

When working with customers today sit at a different desk, use a different phone, & try a different technique today.

Send a spicy đŸŒ¶ message to your boo or bae. Y’all used to all the time, now you’re too busy.

The list goes on & on…

Drive, do, act, try, eat, think, read, speak, write- shit ANYTHING a little bit different today.

Find ways to disrupt yourself every day, that way when (not if) the bigger ones come, you’ve already conditioned yourself w/ 365 + reps of smaller ones.

There are times in our lives we’d all love to take back…

…times where we turned left, when we should’ve kept straight.

When at its hottest, we said words we didn’t mean…

made poor decisions even though we knew it wasn’t right…

& let things slide that we could’ve stopped right then & there.

But we didn’t…

We spend our days replaying that familiar movie in our minds wishing we could freeze the frame at the point of regret…

But, as always, the movie keeps playing with a familiar ending…

You know how it ends because you’re the one who’s lived it.

Humble The Poet wrote,

“There are no erasers for your past, but you can add pages.”

It seems we spend so much time searching for erasers & very little time adding pages.

We spend our days wishing we could take back those days gone wrong…

& while frantically searching for an eraser we say to ourselves, “If only I had another chance, I’d do it right this time!”

You may not get a do-over, but you do get another chance…

Make it “write…”

…just add a page

Your Life is like a really good book…

It’s full of mystery, suspense, pain, sorrow, laughter, and success.

You’ve got a real page-turner going…

Keep writing…

& when you’ve filled that fuckin page up & it’s still not good…

Add another page and keep writing…

Yesterday I had someone throw my past in my face. I’d thought for a long time they’d been thinking that way and yesterday it came out…

You know what I did?

I thanked them…

For finally saying what’d they’d been feeling.

It was weird because, in the past, I would’ve blown up…but I’ve learned (the hard way) that when I lose it, I really somewhat agree with what they’ve said.

…but I’ve added pages…many pages since then.

I’m not who I once was because I stopped looking for erasers & instead added pages.

If you can’t undo yesterday then just do today…

Add pages & keep writing your story.

It’s gonna be a best seller. 😉

When Steven Pressfield’s book, The Legend Of Bagger Vance, was made into a movie, he felt it was a good book, but a poor movie.

& he was right…

The movie was not well received.

Pressfield was asked how he dealt with the public’s criticisms- ripping up his baby he’d worked so hard to create, but was not represented well on the big screen.

He said he’d failed so many times that he learned & lives by one simple rule:

“Don’t wait…”

By the time the movie was released, he was already 800 pages deeply consumed into writing another book…. so it didn’t matter what others were saying because Pressfield had already moved on.

In an interview with Brian Koppleman, Pressfield said good actors & actresses do the same thing. They don’t stand around waiting to see how a movie is received, hell by the time the movie comes out, they’ve already shot 3 or 4 other movies. They’re continuously building & capitalizing on momentum.

Artists move on…

So should you…

The reason why you tank emotionally & lose your mojo is because you’re waiting for a certain result.

You’re waiting to see your shot go in & when it doesn’t…

..result in an appointment…

…result in a sale…

…result in a share, retweet, or positive comment…

When it doesn’t result in an outcome that you were hoping for-because you were just standing around, waiting for that one and only…

You crash & quit.

You didn’t make the deal, get the job, get a return phone call, loan, nor weight loss goal.

Shoot your shot & don’t wait…

Whether it be a showing, post, blog, video, podcast, presentation, interview…whatever…

Put that shit out there and move on…

So if (& when) you don’t get the results you busted your ass for, you’re already 3-4 efforts deeply insulated into your next things.
